Biography of Sylvain Ephimenco
A sharp columnist and writer
Sylvain Ephimenco was born in 1956 in Algeria, then a French department. Between 1981 and 1998 he worked as a correspondent in the Netherlands for the French left-wing newspaper Liberation. Ephimenco became in 1992 a columnist for a daily newspaper. He wrote for several newspapers essays and reflections. As a columnist, he is linked to several Dutch newspapers.
He was the first Frenchman to write a novel directly in Dutch. His next novel was about the Algerian war of liberation. He has published several essays and columns, as well as an open letter to the Muslims of the Netherlands (2001). Ephimenco is often regarded as a watcher of the Netherlands. With his foreign perspective on the Netherlands he doesn’t back down for a sharp and controversial analysis on many social problems and trends.
