Biography of prof. dr. Raymond Kurzweil
"The ultimate thinking machine"
Ray Kurzweil has been described as "the restless genius" by the Wall Street Journal, and "the ultimate thinking machine" by Forbes. Inc. magazine ranked him #8 among entrepreneurs in the United States, calling him the "rightful heir to Thomas Edison", and PBS included Ray as one of 16 "revolutionaries who made America", along with other inventors of the past two centuries.
As one of the leading inventors of our time, Ray was the principal developer of the first CCD flat-bed scanner, the first omni-font optical character recognition, the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, the first text-to-speech synthesizer, the first music synthesizer capable of recreating the grand piano and other orchestral instruments, and the first commercially marketed large-vocabulary speech recognition. Ray’s website has over one million readers.
Among Ray’s many honors, he is the recipient of the $500,000 MIT-Lemelson Prize, the world's largest for innovation. In 1999, he received the National Medal of Technology, the nation's highest honor in technology, from President Clinton in a White House ceremony. And in 2002, he was inducted into the National Inventor's Hall of Fame , established by the US Patent Office.
He has received nineteen honorary Doctorates and honors from three U.S. presidents. Ray has written six books, four of which have been national best sellers. 'The Age of Spiritual Machines' has been translated into 9 languages and was the #1 best selling book on Amazon in science. Ray’s latest book, 'The Singularity is Near', was a New York Times best seller, and has been the #1 book on Amazon in both science and philosophy.

Title:The Singularity Is NearSubtitle:When Humans Transcend BiologyAuthor:Raymond KurzweilBook:PaperbackISBN:978-01-430-3788-0In his latest, thrilling foray into the future, a great inventor and futurist envisions an event :mdash; the 'singularity' — in which technological change becomes so rapid and so profound that human bodies and brains will merge with machines. A controversial scientific vision by the author of The Age of Spiritual Machines predicts a time in which humans and machines will merge and create a new form of non-biological intelligence, explaining how the occurrence will solve such issues as pollution, hunger, and aging. -
Title:Fantastic VoyageSubtitle:Live Long Enough to Live ForeverAuthor:Raymond KurzweilBook:PaperbackISBN:978-04-522-8667-2Live long enough to live forever! Immortality is within our grasp. We are in the early stages of multiple profound revolutions spawned by the intersection of biology, information science and nanotechnology. With the decoding of the genome and our efforts to decode its expression in proteins, many new life-extending methodologies are emerging. This fascinating book brings it all together for the layman. Accessible and clear, Fantastic Voyage charts the progress that has been made and points the way to what is to come. From the self-evidently sensible (take plenty of exercise) to the truly mind-boggling (reduce biological ageing by the injection of nanobots), it lays out our paths into the future with plenty of practical recommendations for age-deferring in the present.

Title:The Age of Spiritual MachinesSubtitle:When Computer Exceed Human IntelligenceAuthor:Raymond KurzweilBook:PaperbackISBN:978-01-402-8202-3Step into the world of Ray Kurzweil, the "restless genius" (Wall Street Journal) and "ultimate thinking machine" (Forbes), whose predictions for an age in which man and machine are interchangeable are startling, provocative -- and closer to realization than you think.
Imagine a world where the difference between man and machine blurs, where the line between humanity and technology fades, and where the soul and the silicon chip unite. This is not science fiction. This is the twenty-first century according to Ray Kurzweil, the inventor of the most innovative and compelling technology of our era. In his inspired hands, life in the new millennium no longer seems daunting. Instead, it promises to be an age in which the marriage of human sensitivity and artificial intelligence fundamentally alters and improves the way we live.
More than just a list of predictions, Kurzweil's prophetic blueprint for the future guides us through the inexorable advances that will result in: computers exceeding the memory capacity and computational ability of the human brain by the year 2020 (with human-level capabilities not far behind), relationships with automated personalities who will be our teachers, companions, and lovers and information fed straight into our brains along direct neural pathways. Eventually, the distinction between humans and computers will have become sufficiently blurred that when the machines claim to be conscious, we will believe them.
