Biography of Niek Boes
The Art Of Voice
Fascinated by theater, music and the slightest of sounds, Niek Boes began his life as an artist at 5 years of age and proceeded to win the hearts of his friends and family. His Donald Duck-monologue (interview in Dutch) totally impossible to understand and without any meaning whatsoever, made quite a hit when broadcast regionally by the local radio station. The provence of Twente fell for the young Boes. Four years later, Niek became a member of the well known 'Stadsjongenskoor uit Oldenzaal', a choir that sang for Pope Johannes Paulus the II and toured the Netherlands. Intensive classical and technical voice training followed.
Niek began his official career in 1988. He was 14 when he signed his first contract. In addition to his schooling, Niek performed throughout the Netherlands and internationally with his acclaimed and unique theater shows 'Niks Zeggen, Slap Lachen' in 1990 and 'Van F16 tot Trabant' in 1992. In the course of years, Niek developed a wealth of sound imitations produced entirely with his own voice which are indistinguishable from the real sounds, and incorporated these into his shows
A new theater form was born and with his following show, 'The Art Of Voice', performances followed all over the world.
Nieks versatility won him Hollands 'Popularity Prize' in 1997. He was the first Dutch artist to receive 'Die Internationale Goldene Künstlerpreis' (The International Artists Gold Award) in Germany.
Niek has something about flowers. The last weeks of 2002 saw Niek, together with Karin Bloemen (Flowers!), comedian Richard Groenendijk, Tenor Kees Taal, and singer Berget Lewis performing the 'Grote La Bloemen Kerstbal' to a sold-out Nieuwe de la Mar Theater in Amsterdam. The show received unanimously positive reviews. Nieks love of flowers reaches still further. Someone once said to him: "Each year, pick a flower filled with that year's experience rather than waiting to pick a whole forrest once you've completed your studies. A bouquet you've picked yourself will stay with you longer than a whole field of flowers one would give you as a gift."
Quite expectedly, the young entertainers talent did not go unnoticed. Various guest performances for TV, radio and special events followed; his appearance on 'Ivo Niehes TV Show' was widely talked about as well as his 'act' in the radio show 'The Breakfast Club'. While the traffic reports were being read on-air, Niek imitated the traffic sounds. Furthermore, Niek provided voice-overs for the TV series 'Fam. Verburgh met een H'; together with Cor Bakker and his combo, an appropriate act was invented for guest appearances in the hidden camera show 'Banana Split'; together with Freek de Jonge a spectacular show for 15.000 people in the Abe Lenstra Stadium in Heerenveen was another of Niek's growing achievements.
