Economist with focus on the relation between thought and action
Michel Volle is an acclaimed economist who mainly focus on the relationship between thought and action. He wrote substantially on the topics economy, industrial statistics, data analysis and e-economy. He worked in the public and private sector and was active for among others Air France and ANPE. He is also the founding member of ‘Club des maîtres d'ouvrage des systèmes d'information’ on which he was honoree president for a couple of years. He also created Volle Systèmes d’information, which gives advise for design and organization of information systems for operation and decision-making, implementation of new technologies and the use of economic calculation in companies.
Volle graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique and promoted there in 1960. He also graduated from the L' École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique (National School of Statistics and Economic Administration), promoted there in 1965 and received an doctorate in economic history in 1980.

From 1996 to 1998 he was advisor of Christian Blanc, president of Air France’s information system. Volle established management assistance for the Air France operations by developing a system of information process from business processes and modelling object-oriented processes. He developed a simulation model of the costs of the air transport, reformed it to the conditions of the budget discussion and relate it to the data.
He wrote his first book in 1982 about the history of the industrial statistics, in 1984 he published ‘Le métier de statisticien’ (The Job of a statistician), in 1997 ‘Analyse des données’ (Data Analysis), in 1999 Économie des nouvelles technologies (Economy of new technologies), in 2000 ‘e-economy’, in 2006 ‘De l'Informatique: Savoir vivre avec l'automate’ (Information: Know life with automations) and in 2008 ‘Prédation et prédateurs’ (Predation and predators).

The organization of the French industrial statistics certainly obeys the technical requirements of the knowledge economy, but to a large extent, it is also conditioned by institutional conflicts which it has been the issue, and were three protagonists: INSEE The Ministry of Industry and Employers. His historical study is instructive for several reasons: firstly, it shows how a conflict of this type can be "managed" by the "actors" on the other hand, it sheds light from a particular example reports force within the administration and between the administration and management. Finally, it calls for reflection on the economic information from a knowledge of the conditions of its production.
Title:The job of a statisticianAuthor:dr. Michel VollePublisher:OxfordBook:Paperback, 230 pages

The use of statistical techniques and rigorous, if you will, "neutral". But it relates to areas, it uses concepts whose definition requires choices and obeys packaging history. To assess these choices, we must use other criteria as those of neutrality and objectivity: we must think in terms of relevance and fertility. This test indicated the essential technical and historical examples that will enable the reader to see how playing in the field of statistics, the dialectic of history and technology. It is based on a description of the French statistical agency. It shows how the statistical feeds the national accounts, then the macro-economic models. It leads to a question of ethics.
Title:Data AnalysisAuthor:dr. Michel VollePublisher:OxfordBook:Paperback, 323 pagesLanguage:French version and English versionISBN:978-27-178-3212-9
The data analysis is a set of methods of descriptive statistics (or statistical exploratory) whose development is fairly recent. This book aims to provide a description as educational and consistently as possible. It describes two key components of the data analysis (factor analysis and cluster analysis) and emphasizes the relationship between them, particularly by relating both to information theory. I tried to give both a description of practices, reinforced by the presentation of examples, and demonstrate the logical properties of methods: the experience shows, in fact, that the correct use of data analysis requires both a clear understanding of its logical aspects and control of a few tricks of trade "practices.
Title:E-conomyAuthor:dr. Michel VollePublisher:EconomicaBook:Paperback, 366 pagesLanguage:FrenchISBN:978-27-178-4073-5
The "e-economy" based on the synergy between microelectronics, software and network, also called "new economy" because it changes the market competition, the internal organization of firms and their cooperation. While this is an "intangible economy", but this feature stems from a more fundamental: the cost of production, virtually independent of product volume is paid once the initial investment. This is a "fixed cost economy." This has profound consequences on the economic equilibrium. The plants are automatic, employment lies in the design and distribution. Income distribution is not linked to salariat. Firms differentiate their products to build niche monopoly and organized around their information systems. Trade passes through the electronic media. The investment is risky, competitive and violent world. The modeling lights Games competition in computers, networks, and in sectors that use audiovisual, air transport, commerce. It allows to interpret the evolution of information systems and diagnose bottlenecks. The "e-conomy" is highly effective, but its power can even lead to disaster if it is treated on the mode of "laissez faire". We must therefore go beyond the economic dimension to consider the requirements of ethics and social cohesion.
Title:De l'InformatiqueSubtitle:Etiquette with the robotAuthor:dr. Michel VollePublisher:EconomicaBook:Paperback, 614 pagesISBN:978-27-178-5219-6
Science describes the impact of information on institutions and society: the computerization transforms as long as the fit here is 3000years the invention of writing. We show how, in action, being organized and equipped the PLC ubiquity, the EHO and the APU, it offers people and businesses, a presentation of developments and operation of computers to help them take advantage of it, it reveals the nature of a change that perception is often distorted by the myth of the intelligence of the computer and the shortcomings of our vocabulary, we think obstacles and pitfalls that the change event. Etiquette with the controller appears to society as a crucial issue. The company is the laboratory where they can specify and where solutions s'expérimentent, even by trial and error. Their assessment must consider the company's point of view of the usefulness of its products, the relevance of his language, the quality of modeling. This leads to consider how focused around information technology, the three "worlds" of nature, thought and values.
Title:Predation and PredatorsAuthor:dr. Michel VollePublisher:EconomicaBook:Paperback, 614 pages
Predation, where either party may impose a transaction to another, the economic relationship was typical of the feudal system that compensated by the charity. The fair exchange, where both parties have the power to accept or reject a transaction, has gained from the eighteenth century with industrialization. Predation did not then disappeared - the industrial economy has led imperialism and war - but the exchange balanced economy based on a principle peaceful. Predation is back in force in the economy, based on the technical system that has been computerized since 1975, and the risk and violence, also extremes go together. The economy was divided into two worlds one operating under the trade balance, the other in terms of predation. The hinge between these two worlds is bleaching. It allows the predators to bring the fruit of predation in the world of fair exchange for not obtaining wealth, influence and repute. It also enables financial journalists, political and judiciary that predators have purchased to enjoy the fruits of corruption. But economic theory built around the balanced exchange of which it is advocating, is struggling to take into account predation and bleaching. Assessing their role in the economy is a necessary condition to act for its full effectiveness. To enter predation and bleaching in the field of economic theory, it is both necessary and sufficient to model: This describes the essential mechanisms.
