One of the most profound European writers and intellectuals
Michel Houellebecq born in La Réunion, February 26th, 1958. He started his literary career when he was 20, while he also began to associate with poetic circles. In 1985 he met Michel Bulteau, director of the Nouvelle Revue de Paris, who was the first one to publish his poetry. In 1991 Rester Vivant (“Staying Alive”) is published, then in 1992, his first poetry collection entitled La Poursuite du Bonheur (“The Pursuit of Happiness”) was rewarded by Tristan Tzara price.
His first novel, Broadening the Field of Struggle, was published in 1994. In 1998, he received the national Grand Prix of Lettres Jeunes Talents for his entire work. In 1999, he adapts with Philippe Harel “Broadening the Field of Struggle” for the cinema. Also, he published a new poetry collection called Renaissance.
His novels Atomised and Plateforme are considered as pioneer in the French literature, because they describe with humour, the affective and sexual misery life of western/occidental men in the 1990s and 2000s.
