Corporate speaker, news anchor, comedian and writer
Gregory Shapiro (born in Chicago) is a corporate speaker, news anchor, comedian and writer. He lives in Amsterdam since 1994, he is now known as 'the American Dutchman'. Shapiro studied Communication and Theater at Northwestern University in Chicago, after which he joined the Boom Chicago Comedy Theater, where he performed at appx. 500 corporate events (Shell, NATO, FIFA, etc.)
More recently, Shapiro has been the anchorman for 'Comedy Central News' and for the 'Obama Video weblog' on Volkskrant.nl. You may know his voice from BNR and 'The New & Improved American' with BNR's Bas van Werven. His news columns have appeared in 'Sp!ts,' 'XM Magazine', and 'The Amsterdam Times'. His onstage political commentary includes a series of 2-man shows at Boom Chicago, including 'Bye-Bye, Bush: the 2008 Election'.
As a corporate speaker, Shapiro has hosted Plenary Events (Logica), he has moderated debates (Philips), and performed tailored stand-up comedy (Corporate Express/Staples). His secret weapon is his tailored material: Shapiro becomes a member of your company for a day. Shapiro's unique blend of cultural experience provides the perspective necessary for a successful event. Shapiro owns both a US and a Dutch passport. He is married to a Dutch woman, with whom he has 2 children. Shapiro lives in Amsterdam Oud West, and proudly bikes to work.
