Biography of Awraham Soetendorp
Rabbi
Rabbi Awraham Soetendorp was born in the Jewish ghetto in Amsterdam. As an infant he was saved by non-Jews during WWII. He helped reestablish Jewish communities in the Netherlands. He is the founder and co-chair of the Hope for Children Everywhere Foundation (which aims to raise 0,1% from national gross yearly incomes for. the education of children everywhere) and President of the European Region of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. He is also co-chair of the Global Forum of Spiritual and Parliamentary Leaders and a founding member of Green Cross International. Since he was installed as a rabbi in 1968, Awraham Soetendorp has committed himself to many Jewish and humanitarian causes in and outside The Netherlands.
Rabbi Soetendorp has published books and many articles in newspapers and magazines and is a regular guest on television shows. He is an important spokesman for the Jewish community in The Netherlands. His decorations: 1991, Jewish World Congress (for the work he has done for Russian Jews); 1993, Rabbi for 25 years at the Liberal Jewish Congregation in The Hague; 1994, Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau (Royal decoration).
